Today my guest is Kaila Gabriel. Kaila is a first year Masters student at Queens University, Ontario, Canada, studying Immunology and Cancer Therapeutics. In her spare time, Kalia is a contributing writer for The Average Scientist project whose goal it is to make science accessible to all. I invited Kaila to join me a guest to chat about her passion for molecular biology and discuss the field of medical science in general, so I hope you are sitting comfortably and happy to stay with us.
Our conversation stared off with me asking Kaila about The Average Scientist project and how she came to be involved as a contributing writer, and how she became interested in molecular biology (06:31), before discussing the use of molecular biology in the fight against cancer (08:45). We then touched on the subject of educating people about the advancements in medical science and some of the hurdles experienced when countering medical disinformation (13:28). We also pondered whether medical science is on the verge of a major breakthrough in cancer treatments (19:03), and discussed other prominent fields where molecular biology is applied (29:08). Towards the end of the podcast, I asked Kaila about closer networking with labs and individuals across the world (30:52), longer lifespans, and giving advice to those who are looking to work the field of medical science (39:20). We then finished up with me asking Kaila about what she is watching or reading at the moment (41:42).
