The Soul of a Car: Jack Pegoraro on Classic Motoring and Modern Myths

I never dreamt it could become a job… but almost by accident, by buying this car—which would’ve been a disaster for anybody else—I ended up doing my dream job

Today, my guest is Jack Pegoraro, the creator and host of the popular YouTube channel Number 27, where he shares professionally crafted, down-to-earth videos exploring the quirks, stories, and soul of classic and obscure cars. Jack has built a loyal following by documenting his own journey through car ownership and restoration—most notably his now-legendary Ferrari 308 project.

As a longtime classic car enthusiast myself, I was drawn to Jack’s honest, often humorous take on what it really means to love cars—not just the polished supercars, but the everyday heroes, the forgotten gems, and the oddities that make car culture so rich. In this episode, we delve into Jack’s transition from a conventional career to full-time content creator, his views on modern motoring, the future of classic cars, and the wonderfully weird world of YouTube so I hope you’re sitting comfortably, and happy to stay with us.

Our conversation began with a discussion about a couple of the successful motoring magazines from our youth (01:44), before moving on to Jack explaining how he got started on YouTube (04:32). We then talked about how he creates and sources his videos (14:26), and I asked him about the way car manufacturers’ models and ranges have changed since the mid-1990s (20:24). Next, we chatted about the current state of classic car ownership (28:55) and the option to convert classic cars to electric (36:55). Towards the end of the episode, we discussed the growing popularity of supercars (40:00), the future of speed limiters and top speeds (45:57), and some of Jack’s favourite reviews (49:20).
