Kaj Embren

Today my guest is environmentalist and sustainability expert Kaj Embren. With over 25 years’ leadership and consultancy experience, Kaj has a track record of promoting sustainable solutions in fields such as industry, governance and civil society. Kaj firmly believes that we already have the tools to obtain sustainability and prosperity, but we still need to unite networks, communities and governments. I have been following Kaj for quite a while and was keen to address the concept of a sustained environment that is a benefit for communities across the world. I was delighted to have Kaj as a guest to discuss this topic, so I hope you are sitting comfortably and happy to stay with us.

Our conversation started with Kaj explaining what he believes is the definition of sustainability (02:33), adopting sustainable polices in rural and urban environments (10:20), and how we can work to implement environmental technologies in older built up areas (14:38). Next I asked Kaj about the difficulties of planning obstacles when investing in environmentally friendly buildings (23:36), working with those who oppose wind and solar farms (27:20), and realising the financial incentives of entering a more sustainable production based economy (30:29). In the second half, I asked Kaj about nuclear energy (34:12), the development of better technology in solar and wind power (39:30), and the problems with industry not investing enough in renewable materials (42:01). As our conversation drew to a close, I asked Kaj what he is reading and listening to at the moment (45:27).
